Long Eaton Townscape Heritage Initiative
The Long Eaton Townscape Heritage Initiative will be delivered through a series of projects all delivering economic growth and historical regeneration of Long Eaton.
Grant Assisted Targeted Historical Buildings
The project will improve the town centre through grant aided renovations of historic properties and renovation of industrial properties of the former lace factories. The renovations will reinstate lost commercial floor space with the aim of creating new local employment and attracting new investment.
Reinstatement of the traditional Market Place
The project will reinstate the market onto the town's traditional market place to provide a central location with a practical space to hold town centre events and improve the town's trading environment. The current market place surface will be replaced with a more traditional locally sourced material such as sandstone or gritstone. Public seating will be relocated from the centre of the Market Place to around the base of existing trees and a revised lighting scheme to improve safety and ability to host events throughout the year. Work will start in April 2009.
Environmental Improvements of the Erewash Canal
The recipient will work with British Waterways to bring forward the proposed improvements to the Erewash Canal. It is proposed that there will be new entry points, enhanced entry points, new or improved paths, crossing points, new lighting, planting schemes and seating to encourage pedestrian movement along the canals and improve the public realm. The implementation of the environmental improvements will take place in 2010-11.
This project has been awarded £895,000 by DDEP
