David Mellor Visitor Centre
With an increasing demand from the public to learn more about the work of the nationally renound designer David Mellor, DDEP got behind plans for a new visitor centre at their Hathersage headquarters. The new building house's a fascinating collection of 50 years of the Royal designer's work, with multimedia displays about the design and manufacturing process and a brand new café.
Like the Round Building in Hathersage where the cutlery is made, the new visitor centre is built from locally sourced materials and designed by the same renowned British architect, Sir Michael Hopkins. Entry to the centre is free of charge, project organisers believe that visitor numbers could almost treble from the present 30,000 a year to between 70,000-90,000.
The project has been awarded £71,000 by DDEP.
