Infrastructure

The infrastructure of our economy - the land, its buildings, transport and communications - are its very foundation. To support growth and job creation, it is essential that businesses and their workforce have a modern and sustainable infrastructure. However, it is also the quality, not simply the quantity, of infrastructure that is our main concern.

We therefore encourage developments that are in keeping with the heritage and historical values of the sub-region whilst protecting the key assets of our environment and culture. Our priorities are to:

  • Identify and bring forward high quality, strategic employment sites to offer business and employment development
  • Support the regeneration and modernisation of urban areas in and around Derby City in conjunction with Derby Cityscape
  • Enhance and support the renewed infrastructure of Market Towns in the County to realise their economic and community-driven goals
  • Work with partners to develop the tourism infrastructure in the sub-region
  • Promote strategic environmental improvement schemes

In delivering these objectives, we will work closely with Derby Cityscape and City Growth Strategy as well as supporting a co-ordinated approach across all parts of the sub-region to developing employment sites.

The support for economic activities in market towns, coupled with investment in projects such as Creative Industries Workspace, Buxton Crescent and Spa and the Central Corridor incubator facilities will all contribute to the wider development and improvement of business site infrastructure.
